Review: The Scarlet Dagger by Krystal Jones

Image
Description: The strength of Sloane’s heart is about to be put to the ultimate test. After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors. When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves

Debate: Twilight vs Harry Potter

Image
"I am Switzerland. I refuse to be affected by territorial disputes between mythical creatures." - Bella, Eclipse p. 143 Lately, I've been wondering if I'm the only one who firmly believes it's okay to love Harry Potter AND Twilight. While both young adult and phenomenon-level works, they are not even the same sub-genre. Why does it seem so important to pick one? I loved both book series, as well as the movies, and have never been able to select a personal favorite. I've never been able to choose between William Shakespeare and Jane Austen, either. D o you have a team? Or are you Switzerland?  Leave a comment below with your thoughts and you might be featured in a follow-up post for Ricochet Reviews! Review: The Gaia Wars by Kenneth G. Bennett

Image
My Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ Deadly secrets have been buried in the Cascade mountain wilderness for centuries. Hidden. Out of sight and out of mind. Until today... Warren Wilkes, age 13, doesn't like what a greedy housing developer has done to his peaceful mountain community, so he vandalizes the developer's property, flees into the wild, and stumbles upon an ancient human skeleton revealed by torrential rain. More than old bones have been exposed, however, and the curious artifact Warren finds makes him question his own identity, and his connection to an ancient terror. A terror destined to rise again and annihilate all that Warren loves. He must fight or see his whole world destroyed.  "He wished it would slow down. The systems were so beautiful, so real, and so startlingly different. He wanted to linger." Kenneth G. Bennett. The Gaia Wars (Kindle Location 834).

Farsighted Tour Winner

Image
Ricochet Reviews tied for fifth place as a winner of "Best Blog Entry"  with the Farsighted blog tour via the fabulous Novel Publicity! Yay! This is so incredibly awesome! As some of you know, I've only been blogging since the last week of September 2011, and I've only known about the online readers' community since August, when my lovely mother published Fate Fixed . That being said, I've only written maybe thirteen or fourteen reviews (yes, I'm a baby blogger!), and I certainly didn't expect this! What a wonderful way to kick off December!

Review: Rapture by Phillip W. Simpson

Image
My Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ Goodreads Description: The Rapture has occurred - the end of the world. The faithful have risen up to Heaven. Those left behind are in a living hell. Armed only with his swords and his wit, a teenage boy wanders this post-apocalyptic world alone, separated forever from everyone he loves. Cursed by his demonic heritage, he must now embark on a quest that will take him across the US to the City of Angels. There he will confront his destiny. There he must fight to save a friend ... and for the souls of the living." Earthquakes, Tsunamis, plague, famine. Animals mysteriously dying. All the signs are there. The Rapture is coming. How would you survive in this dystopian, post-apocalyptic world? A world whose conditions now mirror those in Hell. A world where Demons emerge at night to take those who remain to Hell. Read Rapture before the Rapture. Be prepared.
