Debate: Twilight vs Harry Potter

"I am Switzerland. I refuse to be affected by territorial disputes between mythical creatures."
- Bella, Eclipse p. 143

Lately, I've been wondering if I'm the only one who firmly believes it's okay to love Harry Potter AND Twilight. While both young adult and phenomenon-level works, they are not even the same sub-genre. Why does it seem so important to pick one? I loved both book series, as well as the movies, and have never been able to select a personal favorite. I've never been able to choose between William Shakespeare and Jane Austen, either.

Do you have a team? Or are you Switzerland?

Switzerland! I don't really understand the debate. To me both series are so very different. Harry Potter follows a boy coming of age and learning about his place in a grand battle for good and evil. Yes, there is some romance at the end but this main focus of the series. Twilight is more of a romance and while there are good and evil aspects in it I don't think that is the focus. The focus is about love and hanging on to that soul searing love no matter what. How can you say you have to like just one? That's like saying you can't read another book once you find one you like. I really just don't get it.

I agree 100%! Everything from the themes to the characters to the creatures within are so, so different! It's like checks and balances. :)
